Trinity Stories – Lucy Reid

 Tell us about yourself

I’m Lucy, and myself and my husband are expecting our first baby any time now.  I work as a clinical psychologist, which can be demanding, but also very rewarding and humbling at times.  I’m looking forward to spending some time as ‘mum’ over the next few months, and just hoping that I’m able to do a good enough job on that front!

When did you become aware of God?

My father is a (now retired) minister so I grew up in the church and have probably always been aware of God.  It felt a little forced upon me, however, so I did not     attend church regularly once I moved away from home.  When my husband and I were thinking about getting married we started to attend Trinity and did the Alpha course and I am now finding my own way back to God

In what ways has God made a difference to your life?

He helps me to appreciate all the many good things I have in my life and to be thankful for that.  I think when things are going well it’s easy to become self-satisfied/complacent, but through my faith I am trying to avoid that.  Another main difference He has made in my life is that I’m learning to turn to Him when faced with difficulties/uncertainties.

What is the thing you find most challenging about following Jesus?

Most of my friends are staunch atheists and so it can feel like you are in the minority, and it can be hard to defend.  From a young age I’ve been aware that being a Christian is generally not viewed as cool or desirable.  This is perhaps one reason why I moved away from it, as I did not always feel very able to relate to Christians.

Share a part of the bible which is really speaking to you at the moment.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” – Romans 15:13.  This speaks to me about putting hope and faith in God when facing uncertainty.

How has being part of Trinity helped you in your faith?

It gives a focus and structure to my faith.  I’ve met some lovely people there and I attend one of Trinity’s Life groups which also helps me to reflect, and hopefully build, on my faith.

If you had the chance to ask God one question face to face, what would it be?

‘Why is there so much unfairness in the world i.e. why do some people suffer so much throughout their lives whereas others seem so fortunate?’
