Sunday Message – Harvest All Age Celebrations

Our harvest weekend featured a few short talks, activites, readings and other acts of worship.  The material below is what we focussed on during the time together, which included a massive gathering of foodstuffs and toiletries for distribution to West End Refugees Service, Common Ground and the People’s Kitchen.

Romans 12:1-8

Harvest can seem somewhat removed from us – it’s what Farmers do! Today I want us to see that we can produce a harvest with our Bodies hence your beautiful blue man) and as the Body of Christ which has Jesus as its head.

A special welcome to the Trinity Church Gym! As we investigate how we can use our bodies for good and for God. And then also all together as Christian we can create another Body – the Body of Christ. We will see how we can together make a difference in Jesus’ name. See lets hear what the Bible says about our bodies and The Body as ELEVATE act out Romans 12:1-8:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.  This is your true and proper worship.  Do not conform to the pattern of this world,  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is -His good, pleasing  and perfect will.  For by the grace given to me, I say to every one of you.  Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members,  and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.  If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy if it is serving, then serve;  if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;  if it is giving, then give generously;  if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. “

Talk: Harvest of the Body

Heart: Receive a heart to love and to worship (sticky heart added)

Arms: To embrace and reach out (hug someone near you!)

Hands: To create, heal, give and receive (What will you do with your 5p: give it to someone and tell them about this service and that God loves them!)

Feet: To climb, to journey, to go (Who are you following: where or to whom do you need to go?)

Knees: To pray and humble yourself (who are you to pray for at this time?)

Head of Body is Jesus!

Living as the Body of Christ brings blessing: Psalm 133

eing the Body of Christ makes the world (Gosforth/ Newcastle) believe! John 17:23.

Interactive story:  All Part of one Body: That’s us!!

The Bible tells us that we are all part of one body – that is the Church.  Some people talk about going to church and they are talking about a building not people.  Actually we are not in Church, but we are Church!  In verse 4 of our reading today, it says, just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we who are many form one body, and each of us belongs to all the others.

Well, I thought we could put this into action this morning but you will all have to join in!  I am going to tell you a story and when you hear the word Church you have to respond loudly “That’s us” and if you are feeling energetic you can even stand up too!

The story…One bright and sunny morning in Gosforth many people gathered to thank God for the Harvest.

These people were God’s Church – “That’s us”

There were all sorts of people!

People who wore uniforms – “That’s me”

People who worked in offices – “That’s me”

People who went to or worked in Schools, Colleges or Universities– “That’s me”

People who worked or helped in Hospitals – “That’s me”

Lots of the people did many kind things for others:

They cooked for homeless people, – “That’s me”

Collected and gave things for the refugees, – “That’s me”

Knitted clothes for charity, – “That’s me”

Acted as Street Pastors, – “That’s me”

Many volunteered and gave their time to help others. – “That’s me”

All these people are part of God’s Church– “That’s us”

Now when they come together as Church– “That’s us”,

They like to celebrate and thank God for His love, they say sorry for the things they have done wrong and ask God to be with them in all the things they do.

So in the Church – “That’s Us”

You will find many different people doing different things:

People play music to worship God – “That’s me”

People sing in the choir – “That’s me”

People preach God’s word – “That’s me”

People welcome others – “That’s me”

People pray – “That’s me”

People sing songs and hymns – “That’s me”

People read and listen to God’s word in the Bible- “That’s me”

People bring Harvest Gifts and offerings to give thanks for all God had done for them – “That’s me”

And this is Church – “That’s us”

Thank you Lord for building your Church- “That’s us”
