Spats Langham, Norman Field & the Rhythm Boys ‘An Evening with Bing’
Bing Crosby needs no introduction as a singer, he always loved jazz, and often recorded with the best hot musicians of the day. Spats Langham, one of the best crooners on the current scene recreates many of Bing’s earlier hits from the 20s and 30s, accompanied by his Rhythm Boys (trumpet, clarinet and saxes, piano and bass) starring the amazing reed-playing of Midlands-based Norman Field.
In addition to his crooning, Spats also plays virtuoso guitar, banjo and ukulele: don’t miss this fascinating show, which combines crooning, hot jazz and entertaining anecdotes around the life and music of Bing and his jazz friends.

George Huxley’s Feetwarmers - ‘A Tribute to Sidney Bechet’
Clarinet and sax man George Huxley’s popularity with Midlands and southern audiences is well established, but he seldom reaches us up here in the North-East so, we are very happy to have tempted him here to play for
Trinity Jazz. George’s main idol is the great clarinet and soprano sax player Sidney Bechet, and this evening he will trace Sidney’s musical career from New Orleans in the twenties to his sunset years in the South of France in the 1950s – expect a mix of red-hot jazz and the later sentimental ballads that so endeared Bechet to French audiences. Backing will be provided by George’s five-piece Feetwarmers, chosen from among the ranks of the local jazz élite.
March 17th
Matthias Seuffert with local support
Matthias has been a familiar presence on the British jazz scene for twenty years or more. Starting out on clarinet and firmly in the Johnny Dodds school, Matthias has
matured into an elegant and self-assured stylist on both clarinet and saxophone, equally at home in the traditional field and in more modern settings. Recognised worldwide as a major jazz talent, he is in demand for festivals and recording projects worldwide.
While interested in the stylings of Coleman Hawkins, Chu Berry, Don Byas and other 30s saxophone titans, Matthias’ passion for Dodds and the music of the twenties remains happily undimmed, and we will see him in mainly traditional mode for this concert.
April 14th

In this solo concert, Keith covers the history of jazz piano from ragtime to swing, evoking the masters from Scott Joplin to Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and Art Tatum.

Jim Fryer
Jim began his career as age 16 in the Boston area. In the more than 3 decades since, he has toured internationally; recorded as a bandleader and sideman; and played television, radio, theaters, jazz clubs, and concert halls in a variety of musical settings. First and foremost an exceptional jazz trombonist at ease in any style, he has become especially noted as one of the foremost traditional jazz exponents on the scene today.
He often includes other brass instruments such as euphonium in his performances, and is increasingly hailed as a vocalist.

Pete Allen with the Trinity All Stars
This concert, in February 2010 was also a sell-out, so be warned and book early! Devon-
based Pete is one of the finest clarinettists working in British traditional jazz. He has led a professional jazz band for over 32 years, a tribute to his musical dedication. On clarinet, he embodies the lyrical Creole style of the great New Orleans players, while on soprano sax he recalls the fierce passion of Sidney Bechet. Pete’s enthusiasm and professionalism shine through everything he does, ensuring a thoroughly entertaining and musically rewarding evening. Backing is by the five-piece Trinity All Stars.
