Sermon Theme: Advent Hope!

Scripture:  Romans 15: 5 – 13

Summary: As we enter into this season of Advent, at the beginning of the Christian year, we explore just one facet of the hope that the coming of Jesus gives to us. We consider a life infused with the Holy Spirit, overflowing with blessing that comes from God.

We consider how the promise of the Messiah’s coming opens up a great vista of possibility for everyone who accepts his Lordship.

For further reflection:
Spend some time each day this week before the Lord and simply ask him to open your eyes further to the hope that is found in the Kingdom. What ways are there that you can share that hope this advent?

Gold coins talentsSermon Series:  The Kingdom of God is like…

Theme:Parable: The Kingdom of God is like ‘a man who went on a journey’

Scripture:  Matthew 25: 14 – 30

Summary: Today, as we draw our series on Jesus’ parables about the Kingdom of God to a close, we look at what it means to invest ourselves, our lives, our skills and talents in the Kingdom at how God would have us respond in this season of history. We consider what it might mean to develop good ‘Kingdom reflexes’ to guide our life of discipleship.

For further reflection:
Take some time to consider what the parable is asking of you in these days.

Oil lamp burningSermon Series:  The Kingdom of God is like…

Theme:Parable: The Kingdom of God is like ‘…ten young women with lamps…’

Scripture:  Matthew 25: 1 – 13

Summary: Everyone loves a wedding and Jesus certainly made full use of the analogy of the great wedding feast. Here in this passage we see the Kingdom as being something we must be alert to, prepared for and engaged with. More than that, we see the importance of recognising that Jesus is at the centre of all His teaching on the Kingdom…and we certainly don’t want to miss Him now or in the future!

For further reflection:
Do you regularly take time to wait upon Jesus, to be expectant of His presence with you? What are the ways in which you can be ever ready to encounter Him?

Sunday Message 11th Nov 2012

Single red poppySermon Series:  The Kingdom of God is like…

Theme: Remembrance: The Kingdom of God is ‘a place of peace’

Scripture:  Isaiah 9: 2 – 7

Summary: Not a Kingdom parable this time, but a statement about God’s Kingdom, or his ‘government’ as the prophet Isaiah terms it. We take a look at the relationship between God’s government and the peace we so much desire for ourselves and for the world, and explore the connection.

For further reflection:
Jesus spoke of a peace that only He could give. How do think that relates to, or depends upon, God’s government in your life? On a wider canvas, what should your prayer for the nations of the world be if they are to know real peace?
