Sunday Message, 26th June – Spirit without Measure 9

Real Life – Real Community

Acts 2: 42 – 47

A few years ago a guy called Tony flew to Hawaii to speak at a conference. He checks into his hotel and tries to get some sleep. Unfortunately, his internal clock wakes him at 3:00 a.m. The night is dark, the streets are silent, but Tony is wide awake and his stomach is growling.  Everything is closed except for a diner in an alley. He goes in and sits down at the counter. The rough looking guy behind the counter comes over and asks, “What d’ya want?”  Well, Tony suddenly isn’t so hungry anymore so eying some donuts under a plastic cover he says, “I’ll have a donut and black coffee.”

Fathered, Formed & Filled with Faith

Survey: “It’s a Father Son thing” (our findings!)

What Dad thinks!

And others seemed to demonstrate the sentiment –

The need to be loved, is one we never outgrow!

Sunday Message, 12th June: Spirit without Measure 7

We need another Pentecost!

Acts 2:1-21

I have a confession to make: the page of my bible that includes Acts 2 is the dirtiest! Years of unseen grime from my busy fingers no doubt but also years of sincere investigation into the birth of the Church, the Jesus Shaped Body of Christ. For it was on this crucial epoch making day just under 200 years ago that the Holy Spirit without measure was poured out for the first time upon all who sought renewed relationship with Father God through Jesus, and to this day it has not stopped being poured. Emperors may have tried to persecute and kill the Spirit-filled Followers of the Way, Great Church Councils may have tried to marginalise the work of the Spirit, Popes may have tried to institutionalise the Spirit, and sadly spiritually arrogant churches and denominations have at times acted as if they don’t need the Spirit: but despite the best efforts from outside and within the Spirit Without Measure is not just our only hope its our best hope if we are serious about winning the nations once again. To weep for our City

2 Chronicles 7:14, Jeremiah 29:4-14.

Creating the Body of Christ, giving extravagant experiential gifts, keeping us Jesus shaped and helping us share Christ with others, making us Holy flowing Channels of His transforming presence and grace, and enabling us to be faithful fruitful Disciples of Jesus and make Disciples of others. These are some of the ways in which the Spirit Without Measure is poured through our lives and these we can welcome, receive and understand: but making us weep? Surely not? Stiff upper lipped Englishmen don’t weep, or do they? Well it seems to me that if Jesus wept for his friend Lazarus, and for the city of Jerusalem, then it not only okay but also essential I do too!
